Council is seeking community feedback on the draft Isaac Region Stock Route Network Management Plan.
The draft Plan has been prepared in accordance with the Stock Route Management Act 2002 and with regard to the principles of the Queensland Government’s Stock Route Network Management Strategy.
The Isaac region contains approximately 1,628 kilometres of stock route network and six active water facilities, which Council administers on behalf of the Queensland Government.
Use of the network is relatively low. Since 2021, 38 travel permits have been issued, primarily for moving cattle to campdraft events. This figure also includes multiple permits issued where changes were requested by a drover.
Given the relatively low level of use, the draft Plan proposes few changes to the existing network or Council’s current management approach. It prioritises cost-effective management and continued advocacy for improved cost recovery from the Queensland Government, helping to reduce the financial burden on Isaac region ratepayers.
Council is now undertaking the required 28-day public consultation period. Feedback received will be considered and, where appropriate and feasible, incorporated before the final Plan is presented to Council for adoption.
Once adopted, the Plan will remain in effect until Council determines that it requires amendment or replacement, or the Queensland Government introduces a new Stock Route Network Management Strategy.
