More about the Exhibition

Experience a local story, told by Barada Barna Elders, in a digital setting, created by Moranbah East State School students.

Barada Barna Elders shared a culturally significant story with Moranbah East State School students, taking us on a journey around Barada Barna country. The story tells of an old man (Bunja, pron.: Bun - Jar) and a young boy (Gandu, pron.: Gun-Doo) going walkabout, passing on traditional culture, LORE and country. Bunja and Gandu are only two of the traditional words you will hear while travelling alongside the characters.

Grade six students of the Moranbah East State School listened to Luarna Walsh, from Barada Barna, as she told the story and explained about the people, country and culture. From there, students worked on each aspect of the story in pairs to bring those aspects to life, in a digital setting. This included creating 3D characters, the 3D environments in which those characters would be viewed, the recording of the story, and in the end bringing all of those pieces together, to be viewed by you, as an Augmented Reality experience.

The exhibition showcases photo’s picturing the creation process, the original clay figures used to create the 3D images and QR codes as gateways to the Augmented Reality experience.
