Consultation has concluded

Our Resilient Coast is a coastal hazard adaptation project that will provide us with a long-term plan to manage coastal changes and build our resilience to coastal hazards over time.

About Our Resilient Coast

Our Resilient Coast is a long-term strategy to manage coastal changes and build our resilience to the coastal hazards of erosion, storm tide inundation and permanent sea level rise over the next 80 years.

A resilient future for the Isaac coast relies on the community and Council taking strategic actions now to identify the multi-generational impacts of coastal hazards on our valued places and assets, and development of management strategies that preserve these places and assets, and build community resilience.

Council is working with consultants BMT and Ethos Urban to deliver this project under the Queensland

Council is working with consultants BMT and Ethos Urban to deliver this project under the Queensland Government’s QCoast2100 program. The project looks at coastal hazard risks between now and 2100 and will result in a coastal hazard adaptation strategy for our region. This website provides information about the project and opportunities for you to be involved.

We want your feedback!

Council is pleased to share the draft Our Resilient Coast strategy with our community. We are eager to get your feedback on the draft strategy and the actions identified for your community.

Public notification of the draft Our Resilient Coast Strategy is now open for all members of the community until 4 April 2022.

Following public consultation, Council will consider all stakeholder feedback and make any relevant changes, prior to finalising the Strategy.

View the draft Our Resilient Coast strategy

The draft Our Resilient Coast strategy has been developed to provide a long-term plan for adapting, managing and increasing our resilience to coastal hazards now and into the future. The vision for the draft Strategy speaks to the value that our communities place on our coastal areas:

The communities of the Isaac Coast deeply value their connections to the Great Barrier Reef, the Coral Sea, Broad Sound, offshore islands, coastal estuaries and foreshores. The process of building resilience to coastal hazards balances people’s connections to the natural environments of the Isaac Coast with proactive measures that drive socially sustainable outcomes for communities

The Strategy focuses on three coastal hazards that affect our coastline: storm tide inundation, coastal erosion and permanent inundation due to sea level rise.

Information brochures for each of our coastal communities have been developed to provide an overview of the key findings and adaptation actions for each community.

How to provide feedback on the draft Our Resilient Coast strategy

We are eager to hear your feedback on the draft strategy and the actions identified for your locality. Public notification of the draft Our Resilient Coast Strategy is now open for all members of the community to provide feedback and will close on 4 April 2022.

Project background

Council has been working with BMT and Ethos Urban to develop this strategy under the Queensland Government’s QCoast2100 program.

QCoast2100 is an eight-phase program. Council completed phases one and two in 2018. It outlined how and when to engage with you throughout the project and what additional technical studies were needed to better understand coastal hazards affecting our Isaac region.

In August – September 2020 as part of phases three and four, we asked the community for feedback on the places, features, qualities and memories you value most about the coast. The information you provided us helped to complete phases five to seven in mid-2021.

We are now seeking feedback on the Draft Our Resilient Coast Strategy as part of phase eight of the project. The Our Resilient Coast Strategy identifies the risks coastal hazards pose to places of importance between now and 2100, and the adaptation actions that are available to adapt or reduce the risk and improve resilience for the coastal communities of Greenhill (Ilbilbie), Carmila, Clairview and St Lawrence.
