Help Shape the Future of Waste Management in the Isaac Region

Isaac Regional Council has developed the Draft Waste Management Strategy 2026-2031 and is inviting community feedback before the strategy is finalised.

The Strategy sets out Council's long-term approach to managing waste and recycling services across the region over the next 5 years. It aims to ensure waste services remain reliable, practical, environmentally responsible and financially sustainable while responding to changing community needs, increasing environmental requirements and emerging waste challenges.

The previous strategy focused on building Isaac's waste system. The new strategy focuses on making that system more efficient, sustainable and ready for future challenges.

Council is seeking feedback from residents, businesses and waste facility users to help inform the final strategy before it is presented to Council for adoption.

What's Changing?

The Draft Waste Management Strategy 2026–2031 builds on the achievements of the previous strategy and focuses on:

✅ Improving existing waste services

✅ A simpler regional waste network with fewer landfill sites

✅ Greater focus on reducing waste and improving recycling outcomes

✅ Increased education and behaviour change programs

✅ Better management of emerging waste streams such as batteries, e-waste and solar panels

✅ Stronger partnerships with neighbouring councils, regional organisations and industry

✅ Greater emphasis on long-term financial sustainability

✅ Using data and technology to support better decision-making and service delivery.
