About the exhibition
Ahead of the Curve brings together a selection of contemporary quilts that centre the curve both as technical provocation and as a rich site for creative inquiry. This shape, with its fluidity and structural complexity, has long captivated makers seeking to push the boundaries of their craft.
The works in this exhibition chart a course through improvisation and precision, boldness and restraint. Exploring risk, innovation, and a deep material engagement, the artists engage with the curve not only as a visual motif but as a way of rethinking process, embracing challenge, and expanding the language of textile art.
Collectively, they comprise a compelling survey of how the curve continues to inspire experimentation in form, colour, and construction, affirming the medium’s ongoing evolution as a dynamic and ambitious contemporary practice.
