Consultation has concluded

The Charcoal on Wood panel workshop is teaching participants the old master's way of drawing, which is called "The Sight-Size method", using a variety of charcoals.

Artist Catherine Clark Dowden will explain the method and the best way to use the different charcoals to create a true likeness of the reference photo. These workshops are supported with funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Artist: Catherine Clark Dowden

Date: Saturday 17 August (part of the Clermont Historical Centre Open Day)

Location: Clermont Historical Centre

Workshop times: 9:30am-11:30am and 1pm-3pm (please book for one session only)

Each workshop session can accommodate a maximum of 14 participants.

All participants must be aged 13 years or over.

Please note working with charcoal can be messy, please wear suitable clothing.

Drawing with charcoal on the hard surface allows you to create a real depth in tone, beautiful darks, and shadow, with strong highlights to bring the animal to life on the surface. Each two-hour workshop is a fun way of learning about the different types of charcoal mediums that I use, and what you can achieve with them to create a life-like drawing. Using the sight size method, which teaches free-hand drawing and hones your observation skills, to create your own masterpiece. It is a little messy, but a lot of fun!

Suitable for beginners, 13 years and up,or for artists happy to try something new! Participants under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. The workshops are informative, inspiring, and held in a safe and friendly environment.

The possibilities are endless with art!
