Council’s final public consultation on the proposed Isaac Region Planning Scheme has now been extended to 20 July 2020.

The coastal update will feature the below outcomes featured in the proposed planning scheme.

Council has sought to maintain the liveability of our communities, whilst addressing key strategic planning issues like accommodating residential growth and managing the impacts of coastal hazards.

The planning scheme intent for our Isaac coastal communities is to maintain the existing character and intensity of residential housing, while avoiding and minimising risks to life and property from coastal hazards.

Council has proactively engaged with State agencies and the community on a proposed approach for coastal hazard planning, which balances the requirements of the State Planning Policy July 2017, with the need to protect life and property from coastal hazards, and continued aspiration to provide quiet enjoyment of properties by landowners.

The detailed coastal hazard assessment undertaken by Council has resulted in removal of the limited development zone in Isaac coastal communities, establishment of a defined minimum floor level height for future coastal development impacted by storm tides, and more accurate mapping of land subject to coastal erosion.

These measures provide property owners with increased certainty on development rights moving forward. Please note the new regulations in the planning scheme do not apply when rebuilding an existing home like-for-like or expanding a home’s footprint by up to 20 square metres. However, building approval may still be required.
